Why would Brian choose this topic as part of our program?
Rotary is non-political!
There are a couple of reasons:
Firstly let me say that encouraging polital parties to take up this cause is not one of them.
At our Community Meeting last week it was noted that our Rotary image did not encourage a response from a broad enough demographic, including young people. Wouldn't it be great to have an audience which included 16 and 17 year olds. To do this we need a presentation which is relevent to them. Accordingly we have Darcy Reynolds to be our speaker for Make it 16 on 7 August. We'll also have a Foundation for Young Australians staff member there. It is my plan to promote this event among our youth and encourage them to attend (with an adult) either for dinner at 6:30 pm or at 7:30 pm for the oresentation.
Hopefully, the presentation will provoke questions, analysis and debate among the participants.
