Sweet Charity

Brian has booked 20 seats for a performance of Sweet Charity at the Karalyka on Friday 25 October for the Club, price $50.  This will replace a fellowship night and he suggests we can arrange a pre-dinner meal.  Bookings are needed by the end of this month confirmed by payment to Ray.  The performance is by the Mountain District Musical Society who had an excellent run with Phantom a month ago.

Mont De Lancey not so trivial!
Wandin Rotary was ably represented by the Byrnes, Hendersons, Hodgsons and Riseboroughs at the Quiz Night. All provided a great spread of supper to keep us fuelled for the night. The Barretts also supported the night as part of the Bendigo Bank Team.
The Quiz was run electronically with a console to submit answers to multiple-choice questions. The quicker the correct response, the more points awarded.
If an incorrect answer was given points were deducted, so it was better to abstain than guess.
All Team members contributed well in a variety of topics. We received extra points for participating in dances or actions. There was a virtual horse race and Pauline gambled some of our points to come out with a win on the pink horse.
A great social night of food, fun and laughter. Congratulations to Deb and the Mont Delancey Team for running an entertaining evening.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Today is Fathers Day, and it had me reflecting, What do Fathers do and why do we celebrate the day? Well, they provide, they protect, they guide and they support. Thats just some of the things they do. A bit like Rotary actually. This week I have been reading the newsletter of the Rotary action group known as WASH, which stands for water, sanitation and hygiene. This is just one of the many different groups around the world that come under the Rotary International banner. There are so many different projects that are currently being undertaken that will improve the lives of individuals. We take running water for granted, but are also aware that it is the source of life itself. Some of the current projects include the RC Sentosa, Singapore which has completed 9 Wash programs and global grants for schools in Cambodia. The RC of Dhulikhel is undertaking an ambitious target of providing 100 girls toilets in Nepal. Through this project, the lives of many girls will be impacted by improved health, safety and education. My interest in WASH has been piqued by an invitation from our neighbouring RC club of Upper Yarra to be involved in a water project in providing safe water to some schools in Timor Leste that is ready to go. We just need to provide some funds. $500 in fact for each club in our region !
Last Wed night, thanks to Brian & Sue Hodgson for hosting a Car Show committee meeting at their house. Brian was able to provide a budget for this year, and "nut out" who is responsible for each element of putting the Show on. First one is Nov 20th, not too long now. Can you help us put this event on ? If so please let one of the Rotarians know.
On Tues Peter Johnson & I attended Wandin North Primary school to meet Paul Bailey and one of his students who has conducted a fun raiser , and has given the funds raised $1006 to us for use. See the article in this week's Star Mail. But when questioned as to why Rotary, he replied, "because they gave us a bag of apples and the microscopes and I've always been grateful"
This week we have a meeting at the Hub, please let Ray know numbers , concerning a community action group in Bali.
Yours in Rotary and thanks for reading
