President's Message
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Last Wed night we had a Board Meeting at the Bendigo Bank board room. Many thanks to Ray Barrett who allows us to use this room whenever the need arises. We all enjoyed Pizza as a starter! I was surpirised by a visit from Honorary Rotarian Les Sharp who arrived to advise how he wanted last years Sgt money allocated, and would be pleased to see it go towards providing a bag of Apples for the primary school children at our nearby schools as we have done previously. This is planned for early December, as a great combined community/youth project. The Board ratified the election of membership of Tim Manders, and we welcome Tim to the RC Wandin. A great report was provided by Brian who indicated all things are in progress for our Car Shows commencing in Nov. Heinz stated that planning is under way for Remembrance Day. Gavan (in absentee) provided a report for International and the Board agreed with the proposal to participate with the R C of Upper Yarra and the other clubs in our Zone in a Safe Water For Every Child in Timor Leste program.
On Thurs night I joined the other Presidents of District 9815 where there were a number of different speakers covering various topics of importance to our district. DG Colin Byron spoke about the need to do things differently if Rotary is to prosper and survive. Whilst there has been a growth in membership in our district 9815, when overall numbers are looked at in Zone 8, that being the South Pacific, NZ, Solomons, PNG and Aust there has been a continual decline. Colin spoke about the formation of satellite clubs....we only need 8 new members to start a satellite club and this venture is something we all need to seriously consider . More of this later. The RC Wandin received a Level 1 Foundation award and certificate for its donation of more than $100US per member. It must be the week for thank you certificates because on Saturday night I attended the CFA Seville Awards Night and received a Certificate of Appreciation for our involvement and donation with the CFA.
This week we have a night of fellowship and banter at the Coldstream Brewery on cnr Killara road and Maroondah Hwy Coldstream commencing at 6.00pm
Well thats it from me,Yours in Rotary and thanks for reading
