PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Last Wed we were treated to an inspirational presentation by Heather Dryden on her efforts with the young folk in Bali. Heather has assisted by using her skills in teaching English to balinese which then results in these students acquiring jobs in the tourist industry and specifically in the larger hotels where speaking English is a necessary skill. Not content with doing this for 3 hours per day 6 days per week, she has partnered with a number of other people to support various programs specifically to help the disadvantaged. Garry's photo montage gives a great summary of Heather's tireless contributions. Well done Heather.
Two emails arrived in my inbox this week that took my interest. The first was Rotary's action in regards to Domestic Violence particularly in the Pacific Islands where 80% of females will experience violence in their lifetime. Last year the DG's of the Region agreed: the prevalence of domestic and family violence in our region is unacceptable. That’s why they united to launch a campaign to help prevent violence from occurring.
Since the campaign launched officially at Australian Federal Parliament in November 2023, clubs throughout our region have run more than 100 initiatives to spread the message loud and clear that domestic and family violence has no place in our society. Rotary's Pacific National Day of Action is Friday 29th Nov.
The other email was from Wash: The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Rotary action group that highlights, supports and ensures sustainable long-lasting clean water and sanitation and hygiene programs to communities in need. In association with RC Upper Yarra we will support two of these programs this current year.
It is World Polio Day on Oct 24th.
Thanks to our treasurer Ray who continues to do all of our banking and presents to all Board Members a monthly detailed report on all financials aspects of the clubs' activities. Thanks, Ray.
This week we have a most important night on Wed to further plan the Car Show and followed by a Board Meeting at the Hub. Please advise Ray if you are an apology.
Well, that's it from me,
Yours in Rotary and thanks for reading.
