President's Message
PRESIDENT’S Diatribe
Last week we experienced the culinary delights of member Jeanette Jensen who prepared a feast. We thank Jeanette for her endeavours and expertise in the kitchen. Also I would like to thank Sue Hodgson who turned up specifically to prepare the meals and her help was most appreciated. Our guest speaker unfortunately took ill during the day, and so at the last moment yours truely popped up with a photo montague from his recent overseas jaunt to Singapore, Scotland and Europe.
On Friday night President Elect Peter Johnson and I attended the District Presidents meeting at Mulgrave. It was a good night (the food was excellent) and we heard from a number of speakers on District related Rotary topics. Our club was also presented with a DG's Certificate having reached a number of Community related Goals set at the beginning of the Rotary year. One of the most interesting topics covered was a presentation by DG Partner Leanne Byron on the formation of satellite clubs and what format they should take. There have been two new Satellite clubs formed this Rotary year in our district, one being Traralgon Central and another in Dandenong. The interesting thing about these clubs is that both clubs have a totally different format and style and have been formed with a specific focus in mind eg. Funding Cancer research projects or alternatively a club could be formed with a particular focus on promoting a clean environment. A satellite club needs eight new members and some assistance from the sponsoring club. It also pleasing to note that during 2024/25 our Zone has had an actual increase in Rotary Membership numbers. Did you know Conference next March is in Hobart.
As I write this report a number of members are manning the barbecue at the Junior Football event at the Hub and cooking breakfast. I thank them for their participation. Rotary at Work.
As we head towards the end of this Rotary Year, the Board will consider at its next meeting our annual fundraising donations to the various organisations we support including Romac and Australian Rotary Health and Polioplus. Also a reminder about ChangeOver on Wed June 25th at Mont deLancey. Support incoming President Peter and bring a Guest.
