Last Monday, we had a joint Rotary meeting which was organised by RCL Group 4 Leader Gus Rozycki. Clubs in attendance were Healesville, Upper Yarra and Wandin. It was held at the Healesville RSL, and in attendance was DG Peter Behm and DG elect Emma Clark. The evening was hosted by Healesville President Sally Piper, who was the host for the night. The presidents of the 3 clubs gave a five-minute talk on what their clubs had planned for the Rotary year, Sally spoke first, followed by Paul Coleman from Upper Yarra, and then by myself. It was interesting to hear the plans of the other 2 local clubs and what the 3 clubs could possibly share together. Peter Behm then gave a presentation on what the district had planned for the Year. Emma then followed with a short speech. In attendance from Wandin was, Garry, Max, Brian, Tim, Bailey, Jeanette and myself.

 

I attended the District Presidents dinner / meeting at the Beaconsfield Club on Friday, 22^nd of August. It was interesting to hear and discuss what’s happening with other clubs and the wider Rotary community. The mood in the room was very positive and the speakers from District level emphasised that the is an enormous range of support for all of the 80 or so clubs in District 9815.

 

Unfortunately, things have not gone to plan for our ROMAC patient Serah, accompanied in Melbourne by her older sister Reina, After being here for 5 or so weeks, having scans and being assessed by the medical team, they found out that the earliest that the surgery could be done was late October. As they have been extremely homesick, not enjoying the cold weather and being very bored, the ROMAC board arranged for them to return home to Vanuatu. As a result of this, on Sunday morning, they boarded a flight to Port Vila. By the time you read this, they should be back in Vanuatu, and home with their family in a remote village on the island of Tanna. Everyone involved, is hoping they will be able to return to Melbourne, for the surgery that Serah is in great need of.
